Every chandelier loses its shine over time due to external influences such as dust, dirt, grease and smoke. Therefore, you should clean your chandelier thoroughly once or twice a year. With simple chandeliers, it's not a big effort. However, if your chandelier has many glass elements, cleaning will be a little more difficult. Depending on the design, you should allow two to three hours for deep cleaning with such chandeliers. In the following article we will explain exactly how it works and what you should pay attention to.
Dust your chandelier regularly. This will save you a lot of time the next time you do a deep cleaning. We recommend polishing once a month from dust to free. Basic cleaning can be done once a year.

Dry cleaning is the gentlest and fastest way to clean your beloved chandelier and remove dust. You should therefore dust your chandelier once a month.
The following means and procedures have proven themselves well for dry cleaning and dusting the chandelier:
Dust the candlestick shortly
- Do not remove any room or curtain. This saves you time and prevents damage. Use a stepladder to access all parts of the candlestick.
- Avoid rotating the chandelier when cleaning. It is best to move the ladder to reach all parts of the chandelier.
- If you want to clean your chandelier while it is still damp, you must first dust it thoroughly.
- Do not use dry cloths on an acrylic chandelier to avoid static electricity.
With the vacuum cleaner
A simple variation for dry cleaning is vacuuming. The best way to do this is to use a special soft nozzle with adjustable soft bristles. With such a brush, the chandelier and curtain can be vacuumed very well. You should set the suction power to the lowest level so as not to damage anything while vacuuming. Clean the chandelier with water

- If you disassemble parts, take a photo of the chandelier. We do not recommend dismantling parts and cleaning the chandelier directly on the ceiling.

- Clean the chandelier and parts with a special spray or use home remedies
- Let the candlestick dry then wipe all parts again with a dust-free cloth
- Acrylic chandeliers can only be cleaned with a damp cloth and will not dry by rubbing!
Before you get started with wet cleaning, there are a few other things you need to consider.

With a cleaning spray
There are various special cleaning sprays for crystal and chandeliers on the market. They are self-cleaning and remove dirt, grease, soot and nicotine residue without leaving any residue. Although it is promised to completely remove all dirt particles without additional polishing, once the spray has dripped it must be carefully checked again and any residue wiped away. This is the only way to ensure optimal cleaning.
- Turn off the chandelier and cut off the fuse.
- Cover the floor under the chandelier with newspaper, towels or foil.
- Spray the candlestick completely with the spray and wait for the liquid and dirt to drip off. (Wipe any liquid accumulated in the chandelier bowls with a cloth)
- Let the candlestick dry completely! Only switch the device back on now!
If you don't want to use a spray, you can also use home remedies that everyone has.
Cleanse with home remedies
You can also clean your chandelier very well with conventional home remedies. It's best to mix water with a little shampoo and a dash of vinegar in a spray bottle. Then spray the chandelier with it and wait until everything has drained well. Wipe everything carefully again with a lint-free cloth or cotton gloves. The shampoo gently cleanses the crystals and the vinegar gives the crystals their former shine.
For a proven home remedy, you can mix the following and clean your chandelier with:
- 5 L of water
- A few drops of hair shampoo
- 200-250 ml of vinegar
It's best to pour this cleaner into a spray bottle, spray it on the crystals, then wipe them with a lint-free cloth. Also cover the ground here if necessary.
IMPORTANT: Let the chandelier dry thoroughly, then turn the fuse back on!
Use a window cleaner
You can use the window cleaning spray as you would home remedies. To do this, you spray the different parts of the chandelier and then wipe them with a cloth. All the dirt should come off and the luster should shine again.
Note: Even if you read it often and it is often recommended, chandeliers and spare parts do not belong in the dishwasher! High temperatures and harsh detergent will damage your chandelier and therefore should not be put in the dishwasher! Often the glass elements of the chandelier also become cloudy.
