Usually, when we talk about interior decoration, the majority of people immediately think of decorating their living room, their bedroom, their dining room or even their kitchen. But the decoration of the hallway is also important since it is one of the most frequented spaces in a house. So choose the right lighting and accessories for decorating your hallway.
In the house, the hallway is one of the places most frequented by the family; therefore, it is better that this space is properly lit. For this, various parameters must be considered. First of all, we must not neglect the surface area of the corridor; so take action. In general, for a space used daily, homogeneous lighting is necessary with a light intensity of around 300 lux at least. We're talking about lux, the number of lumens or watts needed for each square meter. Simply multiply the surface area to be illuminated by the recommended light intensity to obtain the lumens expected for lighting your hallway and determine the number of light spots accordingly. But the lumens required for corridor lighting must be divided between several light sources and these sources must be fixed to the ceiling at identical distances. If you use a hallway chandelier with several lamps, all ends of the hallway will be lit. However, for a fairly narrow hallway, you can still opt for a single-light chandelier. This is feasible for a corridor with a surface area of 4m2 maximum. This surface can be sufficiently illuminated by a 500 lumen or 400 watt luminaire. Depending on the height of your ceiling, you can choose between a fixed or suspended hallway light. If it is high enough, you can focus on hanging chandeliers or the same design. Note that there must be at least a minimum distance of 2 meters between the ground and the luminaire. The aim is that all members of the family can move around in a corridor with a clear view and that the decor is not too cluttered, especially for narrow corridors.
In order to ensure the design of your hallway, you must add touches of originality with regard to small decorations, in addition to the lighting of the latter. First, consider putting wallpaper on the walls. The ideal is to lay down papers with fresco designs or patterns. You can also paint a base on the walls. Choose your favorite color to bring out a touch of fantasy. Aside from that, why not transform your hallway into a sort of art gallery where everyone can be inspired as they pass by? This idea is very recommended by designers, you can hang your frames on the walls or place them on picture rails. If you are not more of an executive, you can also choose to place mirrors instead. Mirrors make the space appear larger. Therefore, they are perfect for decorating hallways. You can choose to play with blocks, or choose a large round mirror, which will give a soft touch that will break the verticality of the door frame. Glass mirrors create the perfect illusion for this often cramped space. Speaking of the floor, putting down a rug is the ideal decoration. The carpet will hide small defects on the driveway; just choose the rug that fits the length of the hallway so that it is covered from end to end.
