    The Edimate Workshop

Discover our workshop as well as our know-how to offer you exceptional products.

Our history: Edimate and its team have been active in the incremental metal forming (spinning and flow forming) sector for over 30 years. Initially, Edimate was a sales agency specializing in the sale of spinning and flow forming machines, as well as the provision of tools and advice on these forming processes.

Since 2019, we have studied, produced and developed:

    • Our own metal spinning and flow-forming process, including a forming protocol, forming tools (wheels and burnishers) and a vertical axis machine to control the process and ensure high precision.
    • A methodology for calculating forming ranges based on the design of the components and the mechanical characteristics of the metals to be formed, promoting optimized product/process design.

We also operate in the field of industry for the development of new projects based on spinning and flow forming. The objective is to rationalize the use of raw materials and develop products with optimized mechanical characteristics.

Our products - From design to production: In the production of our products, a large number of processes are required to guarantee you superior quality items. We master all these processes in-house to offer you items entirely made in France, showcasing artisanal know-how.

    1. Product sketch: At Edimate, a project always begins with a blank sheet. We make several sketches to outline the general lines of the product. Once the general aesthetics of the product have been validated, we establish a quotation to define its dimensions and proportions. We also study the design, how the product works, how to make it and how to optimize it.

    2. Creation of the necessary tools: Once all the previous steps have been completed, the final plan is established. We machine the mandrel (inner part of the part) on which the raw material disc chosen by the customer will be shaped.

    3. Production of the product: Once all the necessary tools are machined, we move on to the production of the product itself. In the case of this product, we start from a sheet of 99.9% pure copper 1.2 mm thick which we cut into a disc, the basis of all our products. We then form it manually on our in-house developed machine using the incremental metal forming process (spinning and flow forming) which we have completely re-studied. This makes it possible to increase the mechanical characteristics of the product thanks to the absence of external heat input (annealing), thus offering greater durability and better resistance over time. The striated surface finish is obtained thanks to the complex geometry of the forming tool (burnisher), which is a signature of our process and a guarantee of authenticity. The internal smooth surface condition is obtained by total conformation on the mandrel using flow forming.

    4. Finishes: To finish the product, we laser engrave the underside of the product with Edimate, its reference and Made in France. We then apply a specific maintenance-reducing wax to the product, protecting it against corrosion and fingerprints.

    Controlled processes:

    • Incremental metal forming (IMF): Incremental forming technologies (spinning, flow forming) applied to axisymmetric components with an annular section give the components competitive added value in the following aspects:
    1. Rationalization of the raw materials necessary for the production of components.
    2. Lightening of iso-strength components thanks to the increase in mechanical characteristics by reducing thickness and work hardening.
    3. Superior elongation capacity of the material for long components.
    4. Dimensional, geometric precision and surface finish.
    5. Synergy with other processes such as cutting, stamping, forging, extrusion, casting and machining, allowing integration into an existing production process. These technologies are mainly applied to ductile metals, but can also be used on metals with less deformation capacity by adjusting parameters such as temperature and forming stresses.
    • Spinning: Spinning consists of forming the material in successive passes using a tool which exerts axial and radial pressure on the disc of material. The tool also performs a final smoothing pass to obtain the required dimensional, geometric and surface finish characteristics.

    • Fluo projection: Fluo projection allows the material to be formed in a single pass parallel to the profile of the mandrel by passing the disc or preform between the mandrel and the tailstock. The reduction in thickness depends on the angle of the profile and the movement of the material is only axial.

    • Fluoturning: Flowforming represents the most advanced metal forming technology compared to conventional processes. It allows the rationalization of the raw material, the increase in the mechanical characteristics of the metal, the reduction in the mass of the components, high dimensional and geometric precision, as well as a good internal and external surface condition. Flow forming can be used to form open or closed components, by extruding material between a rotating mandrel and one or more rolls that apply pressure to reduce the thickness and increase the length of the component.

Applications to industry: Our spinning and flow forming processes find applications in several industrial sectors such as aerospace, aeronautics, automobiles, construction, chemistry, defense, electricity-electronics, filtration , medical, nuclear, etc. We are capable of producing a wide variety of asymmetric components without soldering or bacteria, meeting the specific requirements of each sector.

At Edimate, we do everything we can to provide you with superior quality products, manufactured with precision and expertise. Our passion for incremental metal forming is reflected in every product we make. Trust Atelier Edimate for exceptional products, entirely Made in France.
